Winfield Mail Terms of Use
Effective date: 16 October 2026
These terms apply when you use Winfield Mail ("Winfield"), an email app for macOS made by Sidequest Syndicate Ltd ("we", "us"). By installing or using Winfield you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the app.
1. What Winfield is
Winfield is a mail app that runs on your Mac and connects directly to the email accounts you add (for example Gmail, Outlook, iCloud or any IMAP and SMTP server). We do not host your email or run an email service. Your mail stays with your email provider and on your Mac, as our Privacy Policy explains.
Winfield is free. You can support it with an optional tip, which is a gift and does not buy any extra features, support or service.
2. Open source licence
Winfield's source code is released under the MIT licence at github.com/sidequestsyndicate/winfield-mail, starting with version 1.0. You are free to use, copy, change and share the code under that licence, and nothing in these terms limits what the MIT licence allows.
The MIT licence covers the code, not our names or logos. "Winfield", "Winfield Mail", "Sidequest Syndicate" and their logos and app icon are ours. If you share a changed version of Winfield, please give it a different name and icon so people don't confuse it with ours. You can still say truthfully that it is based on Winfield.
3. Getting Winfield from Apple
If you install Winfield through the Mac App Store or TestFlight, Apple's Licensed Application End User Licence Agreement and TestFlight terms also apply to that copy. If those terms and these differ, Apple's terms apply to the App Store or TestFlight copy. Apple is not responsible for Winfield or for supporting it.
4. Beta versions
Test versions of Winfield, including TestFlight builds, are unfinished. They may have bugs, may lose or mishandle mail or settings, and may stop working when a test period ends. Please use a beta only with accounts whose mail is also kept by your email provider, and don't rely on it as your only way to reach important mail.
5. Your email accounts
- You must only add email accounts you own or are allowed to use.
- Your use of each account is also governed by your email provider's terms (for example Google's or Microsoft's). Winfield is not made or endorsed by them.
- You are responsible for the mail you send with Winfield and must use it lawfully. Don't use it to send spam, phishing or malware, or to break into accounts that aren't yours.
- Keep your Mac and its user account secure, because anyone who can use your Mac can read the mail Winfield has stored there.
6. Features that change your mailbox
Some Winfield features act on your mail by themselves, on rules and timers you set up: Expiring mail, Rules, the Screener, Snooze, scheduled sending and one-click unsubscribe. These can move mail, move it to the Bin, or send messages for you. Please check rules before turning them on. Winfield shows what a rule did in Settings › Rules › Activity, and moves to the Bin can usually be undone from the Bin until your email provider empties it, but we can't recover mail your provider has deleted.
7. No warranty
Winfield is provided "as is" and "as available", without any warranty, as the MIT licence also says. We work hard to make it reliable, but we don't promise it will be free of errors, always available, compatible with every email provider or macOS version, or that it will never lose data.
If you are a consumer, you may have legal rights that can't be excluded, and nothing in these terms affects them.
8. Liability
As far as the law allows, we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of Winfield, including lost or deleted mail, lost data, lost profits or business interruption. Because Winfield is free, our total liability to you for any claim is limited to £50, or the amount you paid us in tips in the 12 months before the claim if that is more.
Nothing in these terms limits liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that can't be limited by law.
9. Updates and ending the app
We may update Winfield, change or remove features, or stop working on it. We may stop supporting older versions of macOS or older versions of the app. If we stop offering Winfield, the copy on your Mac keeps working as far as it can, and because it is open source, anyone may continue it.
You can stop using Winfield at any time. To remove your data, see "Your rights" in the Privacy Policy.
10. Feedback
If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them to improve Winfield without owing you anything. Anything you send through Help › Send Feedback is handled as the Privacy Policy describes.
11. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll post the new version with a new effective date, and tell you in the app if a change is significant. If you keep using Winfield after a change, the new terms apply.
12. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales can hear any dispute. If you live elsewhere in the UK or in the EU, you keep the protection of the consumer laws where you live and can also bring a claim in your local courts.
If any part of these terms can't be enforced, the rest still applies. These terms and the Privacy Policy are the whole agreement between you and us about Winfield, together with the MIT licence for the source code.
