Winfield
Mail for macOS · free and open source

Mail that tidies up after itself.

Winfield lets receipts and newsletters expire on a timer, asks before strangers reach your inbox, and keeps every message on your Mac.

For macOS 14 Sonoma and later

Winfield runs on a Mac. Open this page there to join the beta.

The Winfield window, sliding out of an envelope sealed with a plum wax seal. Mail from two accounts sits in rounded cards under a Today heading, and a first message from Ferrous Hardware is open with Let in, Expire and Screen out buttons above it.

Four habits your inbox will pick up.

Expiring Mail

⇧⌘E

Give a message a lifetime, from ten minutes to a year. Train tickets, delivery notices and sign-in codes archive themselves when they stop mattering. Set it once and every similar message follows.

The Screener

⌘Y

Mail from someone new arrives tagged New sender. Let them in, give everything they send an expiry, or screen them out. Nothing is held back while you decide.

One-click unsubscribe

Leave a mailing list without visiting a web page. Winfield only unsubscribes for you when the sender is verified, and tells you if they keep writing afterwards.

Trackers blocked

Tracking pixels never load, so senders can't tell when you opened their mail. Phishing warnings flag links that pretend to go somewhere they don't.

A closer look.

When nothing is open

What needs you today

Close a message and the reading pane greets you with the day's to-do list: new senders waiting for an answer, mail that expires today with a Keep button beside it, snoozed mail coming back, and replies you're still waiting on.

Pick an account at the foot of the sidebar and the list shows just that account, in its own colour. A section with nothing in it shows a short guide instead.

Winfield with no message open. The reading pane says Good evening, here's what needs you, and lists two new senders, mail expiring today with Keep buttons, a message back later today and a reply being waited on.
Expiring Mail

See what's about to go

The Expiring view counts down every message with a timer, soonest first. Anything that still matters is one Keep away from staying put. Everything else archives itself, or goes to the Bin if you'd rather.

The Expiring view. A bar shows eight messages waiting to expire, three of them today, and each message carries a chip saying how long it has left.
The Screener

Strangers wait at the door

Everyone writing to you for the first time is gathered in New Senders. Read what they sent, then let them in, put a timer on everything they send, or screen them out for good.

Your mail stays on your Mac.

Winfield connects straight from your Mac to your email provider. We don't run a mail server, we never see your email, and there's no tracking in the app. Anonymous usage stats are sent only if you switch them on, and never include anything from your mail.

If you add a Gmail account, Winfield uses Google's permission only to show, search, organise and send your own mail on your Mac. Gmail data is never sent to us, sold, or used for advertising.

  • Passwords and sign-ins live in the macOS Keychain.
  • Search, rules and expiry all run on your Mac.
  • Feedback reports show you exactly what they contain before they're sent.
  • Usage stats are off unless you turn them on: daily counts with no ID, and you can see every report in Help › Privacy.
  • The code is open source, so anyone can check all of this.

Try the beta

Winfield is in public beta through Apple's TestFlight. Install TestFlight on your Mac, open the link, and you'll get each new build automatically.

Free, open source, and paid for by tips

Winfield costs nothing, with no ads and no subscription. Its source code is published on GitHub under the MIT licence from version 1.0. If it saves you time, leave a tip in the app or sponsor it on GitHub.
